Falloween

Hello all and hello fall.

It has been a few days over 17 since I wrote last about giving the 17 day diet a try.  IT WORKS, FOLKS.  10 lbs down in 17 days and that was strictly based off of diet, not working out.  I am on round 2 of the 17 day diet which is another 17 days where you add some foods back in.  I'd be lying if I said I haven't cheated a few times, but if you guys had my cravings you wouldn't be so quick to judge.  Ideally I have about 30+ more lbs to lose, so this journey isn't over yet.

Let's talk about something a little more fun, like Halloween.  I am dressing as a Mexican; this has been getting a few laughs when I say it...I hope it's as funny when it happens.  Jon is being a scary baby doll, reaper thing.  I don't really want to talk about it because for the past few weeks he has been wearing the mask, hiding around corners and waiting for the perfect moment to make me think my life is over.  Although this is all fun and fake, I do think I'd be a survivor in a horror film.

Jon and I are hosting our first Halloween Party in ONE day.  We are excited to have family and friends over, but fair warning I'm not Jon's only victim when it comes to jumping out of dark corners. Beware!

Although I don't personally have any emotion invested in the Sooners or the Cowboys (trust me, I've tried), I hope everyone has a safe & fun weekend footballing and halloweening!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Hello Hello!

Welcome to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we could all use a little awareness.

Most know my mom is a breast cancer survivor, 29 years to be exact!  She was 23 when she was diagnosed---Twenty.Three.   We all know if a relative, especially an immediate relative has been diagnosed with cancer your risk factor greatly increases (thanks genes!).  I've found throughout the past few Susan G. Koman walks a lot of people are unaware of the genetic testing you can have done to see where your risk stands.  My mom was all over this when our physician mentioned it.  All it takes is a little swab in your mouth...no needles!  Mine came back positive for the breast cancer gene (boo hoo).  With these results really nothing changes, other than a couple preventative doctor visits a year.  I go into the Women's Center at Mercy every 6 months for either a breast MRI or an ultra sound, simple as that!  With this being said, I would encourage everyone who has family members who have or had cancer to get this testing done.  Insurance covers it and there's no reason not to protect yourself.  Not only do your chances increase for breast cancer, but also many others.  With the regular visits I'm on, if something were to ever appear, it would be caught very quick.  Early detection is early protection.

And men, you don't luck out of this one so you too can get the testing done and know more about your risk.

Happy October, Stay Safe :)

Trying something new.

It's the most wonderful time of the year, or at least the tip of the iceberg.

As of Monday, September 24th I've started a new diet, The 17 Day Diet.  I'm not one to hop on bandwagons when it comes to dieting, but I gave Weight Watchers another try and failed miserably.  I just don't do well with the "You can eat anything you want!" diets. No, I can't.  That's what got me in this predicament to begin with.  The first couple of days of the 17 Day Diet were a little tough.  Craved everything and was honestly just hungry.  I'm into day 7, down 7 lbs and am adapting to lean proteins, low carb fruits, probiotics and veggies.  After my 17 days I can start adding stuff back in, but I'm not sure that I want to; I'm kind of enjoying the challenge.

I really am not someone who does well on diets so if you're at all interested in trying something I would give this one a shot.  I personally need something with strict guidelines, I know myself well enough to know that I take advantage of any wiggle room so I can't have any.

Jon & I got an early start on Falloween (Fall+Halloween, y'all).  Pumpkins, costumes, candy, oh my!  We are even hosting our first Halloween Party and I kid you not Jon was the first one to say "We should have a Halloween party."  My head spun, my jaw dropped and my happiness shot through the roof.  Besides this makes for a great excuse to buy decorations and go on a diet.

**A little side note from dieting and festivities. I realize we all at some point fall into the "Foot in mouth" syndrome (myself included) and I am pretty forgiving.  That being said, I'm not too understanding of "Foot in text" syndrome whether the objective is humor or just a personal jab because of your own bad day.  Finding humor at someone else's expense CAN be funny, when you know the person and share some camaraderie.  Otherwise I get the impression of purposeful maliciousness and an immense lack of character.  This really goes back to basics, "Think before you speak."  Also, this goes hand in hand with today being the World Day of Bullying Prevention.
